5/4/2019 0 Comments Faith over fearJust relax is some of the most common yet unhelpful advice out there, dished out liberally to those trying to conceive. While there is truth to the idea that a calm spirit is more receptive to new life, the irony of this simple suggestion is that it usually has the opposite of its intended effect. The harder we try to relax, the more wrung out we feel. Stress levels skyrocket when we start stressing about being stressed. Infertility often leads to an endless cycle of fear, hopelessness, despair, and stress...all the things that do in fact make it hard to conceive but feel nearly impossible to escape. Our lives and our cycles feel so out of our control.
In comes this book, a mind-body guide to fertility. As someone who has studied embodied spirituality and been interested in the mind-body-heart-spirit connection for some time now, the idea that our thoughts and emotions affect our bodies (and vice versa) is not new to me. But I have been taking a deep dive into the mind-body connection over the past year or so through daily yoga practice, guided visualizations, meditation, online support circles, and absorbing info from books, blogs, articles, and podcasts. How to Get Pregnant Even When You've Tried Everything: A mind-body guide to fertility by A'ndrea Reiter is my latest read, recommended to me by a fellow infertility warrior.
